Has a puppy or kitten joined your family after the holidays? If so, congratulations! There is nothing better than watching a playful, adorable young pet explore the world around them.
Besides training and mental and physical enrichment, puppies and kittens require ongoing wellness examinations and vaccines. Just like us humans, their immune systems have not yet fully developed, which means they are more likely to contract a disease or illness.
At Westfield Veterinary Group, we recommend monthly health exams and lab work during a puppy or kitten’s first six months of life. Our comprehensive veterinary pediatric visits include a physical exam to ensure proper development, parasitic disease screening and treatment, and vaccinations. If appropriate, we’ll begin year-round preventive medication for fleas, ticks, and heartworm parasites. Around six months of age, we typically recommend spaying or neutering, as well as microchipping the pet.
If you are a new pet parent, you’ll have much to learn about the care of your new pet – and our team is here to help provide guidance about food and exercise requirements, dental care, as well as general pet safety.
Make sure the new member of your family is set up for a long, healthy, and happy life by taking the proper steps to maintain their health as early as possible. Contact the Westfield Veterinary Group team to schedule an appointment for your puppy or kitten’s wellness care appointment today.
