As some of you may already be aware, our owner, Dr. Richard Maus, officially retired at the end of 2020, handing over the reins of Westfield Veterinary Group management to a highly capable administrative team and a medical board of WVG veterinarians. We are proud that his two sons, Dr. Kevin Maus and Daniel Maus, are both carrying on his legacy.
After graduating from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Maus started his career at Westfield Veterinary Group – a practice that had been in operation since the 1940s. In 1985, Dr. Maus purchased WVG and began to grow it into what would become one of the most respected practices in the region.
Over the years as the practice expanded, Dr. Maus continued to hone his medical skills as veterinary medicine advanced, while also cultivating his business and practice management acumen. His ambition was a veterinary practice that provided the highest level of veterinary care, prioritized treating clients like family, and focused on employee well-being and a supportive work environment.
This focus on excellence and compassionate, cutting-edge care resulted in the exceptional loyalty shown by the region’s pet owners and veterinarians and helped Dr. Maus and the team increase the practice from 3 doctors to a team of well over 75 people, with state-of-the-art medical facilities, two locations – including one offering emergency services – and a thriving part of the community that has achieved AAHA accreditation for 15 years in a row.
Today, Dr. Maus and his wife Janet are enjoying retirement, spending plenty of time with their five children and seven grandchildren in addition to traveling, golfing, camping, and spending long days at the beach. All of the WVG team would like to say thank you to Dr. Maus for laying the incredible foundation of a practice that we can all be proud of.
